Some time ago…
In Stratford, Ontario, on the 2nd of April, 1975, little Patricia Lynn Mallette was born and immediately began a troubled childhood.
Pattie is the youngest child of Dianne and Bruce Mallette – she has an older brother named Chris.
Her older sister was tragically struck by a vehicle and killed while crossing the street at the age of 5.
The once innocent young girl had her childhood thrown off balance by violence and sexual abuse.
Having suffered an assault, the 3-year-old little Pattie pointed the finger at her male babysitter.
The abuse continued until she was 14 years old – thanks to neighborhood kids and – the grandfather of one of her friends.
To make matters worse, she became a victim of date rape at 15.
“I was sexually violated so many times that as the years went by, it began to feel normal. It’s a strange marriage – knowing something is wrong yet, at the same time finding it familiar and commonplace.”
Like Justin, Mallette had a talent for acting and singing.
She began by appearing on locally televised children’s eating contests and on local television programs like Romper Room.
She was part of two theatrical productions at ten years old – the Stratford Shakespeare Festival.
The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree.
She took every choir and drama class available throughout middle and high school and coupled them with seven.
She was finally signed by a Toronto-based agency, however…
Her parents couldn’t support her as auditions required one and a half travel hours to Toronto every weekend.
That crushed her dreams to smithereens…
Devastated, she resorted to drugs at 14;
Marijuana, alcohol, LSD, you name it…
She sank as low as shoplifting…
… she also started a fire in a bathroom, which caused her suspension from school.
Like every other troubled teen…
After leaving home, she supported herself with drug dealing and theft.
She became depressed and started to consider suicide…
“It was a culmination built up over the years of the abuse and the pain,” says Pattie.
She attempted to kill herself at 17 by throwing herself in front of a moving truck.
This resulted in a visit to a mental ward – where she experienced a newfound faith.
Pattie reconnected with Jeremy Bieber following her release from the hospital.
Six months later, she became pregnant with JB.
Sad to say…
Not long after trying to work things out, the couple split up.

Pattie started dating Jeremy when they were just 15 years old.
With an on and off relationship, it’s no wonder they never married.
When she became pregnant with Justin at 17, Jeremy went AWOL and left Pattie alone with 10-month old Justin.

Pride was thrown out of the window when she relied on Foodbanks to raise her son.
Pattie’s struggle and pain paid off when her beloved son Justin became an overnight sensation.

She found it difficult but decided letting go was all she could do to ease her pain.
“His life was my life, and now I’ve had to let him go a little bit and let him be independent. It is hard not to be able to control everything that your adult child does,” said Pattie emotionally.
Thanks to Justin’s wild antics, the two were estranged for two years.
He was on drugs constantly at 19 and continued to show up badly in his relationships – this took a toll on his mother and then-girlfriend, Selena Gomez.
He opened up to the press in 2015, saying his relationship with his mother is: “pretty nonexisting.”
“I was distant because I was ashamed. I never wanted my mom to be disappointed in me, and I knew she was. We spent some time not talking, so it takes time to rebuild that trust … it’s hard but getting better; she’s an amazing woman, and I love her.”
Now the duo is back to being the closest they can be, together with father and husband Jeremy.
Justin turned his life around, and his mother couldn’t have been any more proud of him!
