DeAndre Cortez Way was born July 28, 1990, in Chicago, Illinois… to parents Tracy and Lisa.
At the age of 6, Way moved with his family to Atlanta, Georgia… where he first discovered rap music.
At 14 Way moved again to Batesville, Mississippi where he attended South Panola High School.
His parents were supportive of his music… they even built a recording studio for him in their home!
In 2005 DeAndre Cortez Way decided to take to the internet… posting his first songs on Soundclick, branding himself as Soulja Boy.
Soulja Boy received positive feedback… prompting the artist to start a YouTube channel and Myspace account.
In 2007… Soulja Boy released the hit “Crank That (Soulja Boy)” along with his first album Unsigned and Still Major: Da Album Before Da Album.
