On February 25, 1971, the record producer was born in Chicago. Kaskade attended Glenbrook North High School in Northbrook, Illinois, where he grew up.

His passion for music began when he was a teenager. He used to go to Gramaphone Records on Clark Street in Chicago to buy music during this time. He introduced the concept of house music, which was still a novel concept for most people.

From 1989 to 1990, he attended Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah, where he honed his DJ skills in his dorm room.

The American DJ traveled to Salt Lake City to attend the University of Utah after serving a two-year full-time mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Japan. He graduated with a degree in communications.

The record producer and DJ and his close friend Jodi Call managed Mechanized, a record store in Salt Lake City, while in school.

Aside from music, being an entrepreneur runs in the blood of their family as his brother is also an entrepreneur and film producer.

But that’s only part of the story:

Raddon started DJing his first monthly Monday night party in 1995 at Club Manhattan, a basement venue. He utilized the extra money to stock up on studio necessities.

Some years later…

Ryan Gary Raddon and his wife relocated to San Francisco in May 2000, where he worked as an A&R assistant for John Elkins at Om Records, a house and electronic label. San Francisco, to Raddon’s advantage, was the birthplace of a new deep house movement.

You may be wondering how he came up with the stage name Kaskade:

He got his stage name after seeing a waterfall picture in a nature book, and a coworker believed that “cascade” was a fine choice, but he decided to change the spelling.

Here’s a funny story:

His wife was concerned that his stage would remind people of dish detergent as soon as he chose it.

Perhaps you’ve heard anything like this somewhere:

As some supporters believe, the American DJ didn’t get his name from the Pacific Northwest’s Cascade Range.

What happened next was unthinkable:

After mixing the third volume in the Sounds of Om series, Ryan Gary Raddon was given a three-album deal for Kaskade. “It’s You It’s Me,” his full-length house debut album, kicked off the contract.

The album received critical praise, spawned multiple songs, and was nominated for a prestigious Dance Star Award for Best New Artist, putting Kaskade firmly on the dance music radar.

But hold on! There’s more!

The DJ and record producer began to experiment and establish his sound while concentrating on his DJing talents.

With this in mind…

Kaskade’s first track, “What I Say,” was released on the label in 2001. Kaskade’s first top 10 hits, “Steppin’ Out,” was released on the album “In The Moment” and reached No. 5 on Billboard Magazine’s Hot Dance Club Play chart and No. 6 on Dance Radio Airplay.

“Sorry,” his fourth song from the “Love Mysterious” album, was his third top 10 hit on Billboard’s Hot Dance Airplay Chart, peaking at No. 9. “Sorry” was remixed by Dirty South. The remix received a Grammy nomination for Best Remixed Recording in 2008.

Meanwhile…

Kaskade left OM Records in late 2006 and signed with Ultra Records. Kaskade collaborated on tracks from Strobelite Seduction with Canadian electronic musician deadmau5, including the first single (issued as an EP), “Move for Me.”

With “Dynasty,” starring Haley Gibby on vocals, he added another number-one Billboard Hot Dance Airplay track to his resume in 2010.

Apart from that…

Kaskade became the resident DJ for “Kaskade Sundays” daytime pool parties at the Encore Beach Club in Las Vegas, Nevada, on May 30, 2010.

Ryan Gary Raddon was nominated for two Grammy Awards in December 2013: Best Dance Recording for the song “Atmosphere” and Best Dance/Electronica Album for the album “Atmosphere.”
