DJ Hardwell was born Robbert van de Corput on January 7, 1988, in Breda, Netherlands. His parents are Anneke and Cor van de Corput.

They’re both active members of Hardwell’s charity for aspiring DJs.

Early Life

At the age of four…

… Hardwell started to pursue his love for music. He took piano lessons and attended music training. By the time that he was 12, he had already produced and performed his first song as a hip-hop DJ.

He soon became famous in Breda’s local music scene, much like his favorite from his hometown, DJ Tiesto.

Then his career took a turn.

Hardwell decided to switch to electronic dance music as the hip-hop scene went underground.

As an electro house DJ, Hardwell produced hit remixes and uploaded them to the Internet. In 2002, he bagged a record deal with the Klubbheads’ record label Digidance.

Hardwell released ‘Bubbling Beats 1’ under the said label. Then he toured through the Netherlands after that. He was 14 that time, by the way.

Career

Hardwell became an international DJ in 2007.

It started with ‘Never Knew Love,’ which Hardwell produced with Greatski. The song was played in Germany and was officially on the German music charts.

His collaborations with other artists, such as remixes of ‘Toys Are’ with R3hab and ‘You Do Not Love Me’ by Sidney Samson, and Skitzofrenix topped the dance charts for weeks.

Electronic music fans specifically loved his mashup of ‘Be’ by Laidback Luke and Steve Angello and ‘Show Me Love’ by Robin S. The said artists were all praises for this talented breakthrough DJ.

Then his hero took notice of him.

Tiesto invited Hardwell in 2009 to perform with him. He went to major music festivals and had his song ‘Twilight Zone’ picked as the 2009 Dancevalley Festival’s official anthem.

Just a year later…

Hardwell launched his own record label, Revealed Recordings (AKA Revealed.)

His company focused on launching upcoming DJs and EDM artists. Hardwell helped the likes of W&W, Dannic, and Dyro to get on the map.

He did all that as a music producer who released Hardwell Presents Revealed compilation albums annually. It’s a collection of tracks made by the record producer and remixer himself and the other artists under his record label.

2011 was a great year for Hardwell.

It was when he signed with German record label Kontor Records and launched his podcast Hardwell On Air.

Kontor gave the DJ a wider audience. Meanwhile, the podcast was broadcast by the Netherlands’ Slam!, the United States’ Sirius XM, and other radio stations in and out of Hardwell’s home country.

And speaking of home…

Zero 76,’ Hardwell’s collaboration with Tiesto in 2011, was well-received by fans. It’s a tribute to his birth place, Breda, Netherlands. The number ‘076’ was their telephone prefix.

Hardwell then released several other hit remixes and originals that the tech-house industry welcomed with open arms.

‘Cobra’ was on the Dutch single charts, was the Energy Festival theme song, and was top one of the Beatport charts. Then his podcast’s intro track ‘Encoded’ was just as successful.

‘Spaceman’ was sold 500,000 times in the Us alone. Mitch Crown’s vocal version charted in the US Billboard Hot Dance/Electronic Songs and Dutch Single Top 100. Remixes, mashups, and versions of the song kept gaining popularity in the years after its first release.

All the while…

Hardwell headlined famous music festivals like Creamfields, Electric Daisy Carnival, Nature One, Electric Zoo Festival, Ultra Music Festival, and Tomorrowland.

In 2013, Hardwell, Dannic, and Dyro went on a bus tour through Canada to showcase their music. Under Revealed Recordings, the band named themselves Dutch House Mafia. The tour then continued through North America.

That was his first worldwide tour – I Am Hardwell. He featured fan favorites like ‘Apollo,’ ‘Never Say Goodbye,’ W&W collaboration ‘Jumper,’ ‘Countdown,’ collab with American singer Matthew Koma, ‘Dare You,’ etc.

In 2015…

Hardwell released his album ‘United We Are.’ That’s after teasing his fans with hit songs like ‘Eclipse,’ ‘Young Again,’ ‘Don’t Stop the Madness,’ ‘Sally,’ etc. – and of course the announcement of the United We Are World Tour.

The DJ collaborated with big names like Jason Derulo, Headhunterz, Chris Jones, and many others for the album.

Hardwell performed his unpublished tracks during the 2015 Ultra Music Festival. It included ‘Mad World,’ ‘Off the Hook,’ and ‘Survivors.’

Hardwell’s net worth kept growing with his career.

He was the most awaited guest of festivals, and fans met his song releases with positive feedback. Hardwell collaborated with even bigger names and record labels in the industry and became the face of his chosen music genre.

He even went further with the Taiwanese record label Eternal Music. Under them, Hardwell produced ‘We Are One’ featuring Taiwanese singer Jolin Tsai.

Come 2017…

… and Hardwell founded United We Are Foundation. The non-profit partnered with India’s Guestlist4Good Social Enterprise and Magic Bus. They launched the charity event, World’s Biggest Guestlist Festival.

Through the festival, Hardwell raised enough educational funding for 100,000 underprivileged Indian children.

Then Hardwell took a touring hiatus in 2018.

Hardwell announced his hiatus after his performance at the 2018 Amsterdam Dance Event. He still released a few singles and went on stage as a guest on live shows.

But the fans are still waiting for him to get back on the road.

Rumors exploded surrounding a mysterious Mr. X who performed at an ADE party in 2019. But Hardwell’s manager said that it wasn’t Hardwell, and though he was indeed at the event, he was only there to support his friends who hosted it.

Documentary Films

With his success starting early and growing rapidly, people were bound to be curious about his professional and personal life.

So in 2014…

… the ‘I Am Hardwell’ documentary was released. It was centered at the most memorable moments of Hardwell’s eventful career.

But it was the second documentary film, released in 2015, went to the cinemas‘I Am Hardwell – Living the Dream.’ It was directed by Robin Piree and premiered during the Amsterdam Dance Event.

The Dutch DJ earned himself an impressive list of awards. You can’t expect less from a global DJ, right?

… DJ Mag ranked Hardwell at #24 in the 2011 Top 100 DJs list. That’s the second-highest new entry, right next to Skrillex. And in just one year, Hardwell sprinted to sixth place on the same list.

Another year passed, and suddenly DJ Mag voted him #1 – the youngest to ever get to the top.

Hardwell also won Best Breakthrough DJ awards at the International Dance Music Awards 2012.
