John Maxwell’s first pastorate work and mission was in Hillham, Indiana.
The first days of his inaugural services have had a total of three people in attendance and that included himself, his wife, and “an old lady” named Maude.
Maxwell admits in one of his video interviews that he loved that church and that he had a dream to build a great church but did not know how to do it.
Maxwell’s career took him from the small town of Hillham, Indiana to a prestigious posting as the Executive Director of the Wesleyan World Headquarters.
In 1981, he received an offer to be the leader of the Skyline church near San Diego, California, the largest church in the Wesleyan denomination.
There, he was mentored by Robert H. Schuller, the leader of the Crystal Cathedral.

In less than a decade, the church was three times the size and grew the annual budget from $800,000 to over $5 Million.
He left Skyline in 1995 after serving as a senior pastor for 14 years.
In 2004, he moved to the Christ Fellowship congregational ministry in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, as a teaching pastor.
John started his service as a guest pastor at the Crystal Cathedral on November 16th, 2008, in Orange County, California,
