Jewel Kilcher was born on the 23rd of May 1974 in Payson, Utah. She grew up in a Mormon family in Anchorage, Alaska, with her mother, Lenedra Jewel Kilcher, father Attila Kuno “Atz” Kilcher, and brothers Shane and Atz Jr. 

Her parents divorced in 1981, so the family left  The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She also has a half-brother, Niko, from Atz’s other relationship. 

After her parents’ divorce, she was raised by her father in Homer, Alaska. Their house there doesn’t have indoor plumbing. There, she would perform music with her father in local taverns and Anchorage hotels.

Jewel Kilcher released her debut album, Pieces of You, by Atlantic Records in 1995. It stayed in Billboard charts 200 for two years and was one of the most successful musical premieres in recording history. Moreover, it was one of the best-selling debuts in music history.
