Stephen Gilchrist Glover, or Steve-O, was born on June 13, 1974, in London, England. His father has American roots, while his mother was a Canadian. Steve-O’s father was a successful business executive in Pepsi-Cola. His career forced their family to move around a lot.

When Steve was 12 years old, he had already lived in five countries.

Because of the pressure of moving around a lot, he became a class clown in every new school he attended while he sought attention and acceptance from his classmates.

More about their move around the world…

When he was 15 years old, he took his father’s camera and started creating videos of himself doing dangerous skateboarding stunts.

After high school, he went to the University of Miami. However, after a year, he dropped out because he realized that he’s not interested in what college had to offer. Later on, he enrolled in Ringling Brothers and Bailey Clown College.

Three years later, he professionally worked as a clown and did various stunts.

Steve-O started by regularly sending tapes of his stunts to Big Brother, a skateboarding magazine. Little did he know that the person receiving his tapes was the director-to-be of the movie, Jackass, Jeff Tremaine.

Tremaine saw potential in Steve-O, so he brought him to the Jackass crew. The original MTV show aired in 2000 and lasted for three seasons. It was a massive success, and he became one of the fan-favorites.

More about the Jackass movie…

The history of Jackass is linked with the activity of other known Jackass figures. For instance, Bam Margera, the professional skateboarder, started filming his family, performing stunts, and playing pranks in 1999 with Camp Kill Yourself released.

Meanwhile, Johnny Knoxville, an early pioneer of the Jackass format, started testing self-defense equipment and weapons on himself at that time.

The good news…

The series, Jackass, was such a huge success that it spawned a few spin-offs and sequels. Later on, it became a movie, Jackass: The Movie. Here, Steve-O joined the cast. The sequel, Jackass Number Two, followed it, and the final Jackass movie, Jackass 3D, grossed almost $172 million worldwide.

More Jack movie spin-offs were released, including Jackass Presents: Bad Grandpa, Jackass 2.5, and Jackass 3.5

More about Steve-O’s career…

In 2001, Steve-O explored a solar career. The same year, he released his first solo DVD, Don’t Try This At Home.

Later in 2006, he co-starred with Chris Pontius in Wildboyz, a Jackass spin-off. Eventually, Steve and Chris visited The Dean Blundell Show to promote their tour, Don’t Try This at Home.

He finally got his break…

In 2007, Steve-O had his television show, Dr. Steve-O. The same year, he appeared in Jackass 2.5 with some Jackass alumni in National Lampoon’s TV: The Movie.

Later in 2008, Steve appeared on The Howard Stern Show with Howard Stern, Robin Quivers, and Artie Lange.

He also released a mix CD, The Dumbest Asshole in Hip Hop.

Steve-O Scandals & Controversies

Throughout Steve-O’s career, he has been heavily reliant on alcohol and drugs. Eventually, his substance abuse took a toll on his mental health.

The bad thing…

He tended to break the law. One evidence of this was the incident in 2002 where he was arrested for battery and obscenity. Then, he was jailed in Sweden when he brought drugs across the border when he toured Europe with Bam Margera.

More arrests followed. It was a disaster for Steve-O.

Steve-O accelerated his drug use when he was misdiagnosed with a rare heart condition in 2006. In off live broadcasts and televisions, he would frequently be kicked off for being intoxicated and belligerent.

It isn’t the worst from him yet…

His downward spiral reached dangerous levels, to the point that he sent an email to his friends hinting that he was contemplating suicide.

Thankfully, he got to receive medical attention. Because of his suicidal behavior, he was hospitalized for 14 days.

The same year, he was pled guilty to felony possession of cocaine. To avoid imprisonment, he participated in a rehabilitation program. Although he was sober for a few months, he checked into a mental institution. He later admitted that his drug use causes his mental health problems.

Top 3 Quotes From Steve-O

  • “The first thought that I had about really trying to get sober was, ‘Man, I could do a lot of good in the world. I can lead by example and just be this heroic recovery guy.’ And that’s just a bad reason to get sober. You can’t get sober for anybody’s benefit, let alone the world at large. You really got to do it for yourself.”
  • “When I was a kid, I loved a heavy metal band called Motley Crue. I was thirteen when they came to my city, and I called every hotel in the Yellow Pages asking for a room by the name of their manager in hopes of meeting the band. After two or three hours of calling hotels, I got through, and the manager’s brother answered the phone.”
  • “At this point, I’ve really failed at a lot of things. It’s nice to be able to say that, in a way. I’ve failed at music. I’ve failed at dancing. And acting – there have been times when I went out and read lines to audition for acting parts. I believe that if anybody wrangled together those audition tapes, it would be pretty hysterically funny.”

Conclusion: Steve-O Net Worth, Biography & Lifestyle

So there you have Steve-O Biography and Lifestyle. I’m sure you’ll agree that he has an interesting career yet quite gloomy personal life as he became suicidal.

My biggest takeaway here is that our childhood can greatly affect our psychological well-being once we’ve reached adulthood. We must have a good connection and communication with others. Also, we should seek help if we need it and not rely on drugs as it will do no good.

I’m sure there’s a lot we can learn from his mistakes of resorting to drugs instead of seeking help from others. We can also look up to his patience and perseverance.
