At a young age, his parents divorced and his father found a new woman… however, sadly Charles Edward Murphy was murdered by his girlfriend when Eddie was just 8 years old.

At the age of 15, Eddie was obsessed with comedy and was writing his own routines and performing them whilst attending Roosevelt Junior Highschool.
In 1980 Eddie caught his first big break and joined the cast of Saturday Night Live.
At the time the show was struggling… the ratings were down after all the original cast members left, and viewers found the content less funny.
After stepping in one night to fill the last few minutes of airtime with an impromptu stand up set, Eddie became a smash hit – reviving the show and lifting it to new heights!
Eddie became the main comedian… creating well known characters such as Mister Robinson and Tyrone Green; he stayed on the show until 1984.
