Yes, he was already earning $5 at the tender age of 9, making comic strips for the local newspaper The Kent Good Times Dispatch.

Seth Macfarlane’s animated short film “The Life of Larry,” which he created when he was a student at Rhode Island School, was instrumental in his eventual success.

It was what got him noticed by the executives at Hanna Barbera Productions, then known as Hanna Barbera Cartoons.

The “Life of Larry” was also the basis for the “Family Guy” franchise.

During his years at Hanna Barbera, he worked on such TV series as “Dexter’s Laboratory,” “Cow and Chicken,” and “Johnny Bravo.”

By this time, he was also working at the Cartoon Network for its Cartoon Cartoons series as an animator and writer, freelancing at Walt Disney Television Animation and Nelvana, writing “Jungle Cubs” and “Ace Ventura: Pet Detective.”

The voice actor credited his time at Disney, particularly working on Ace Ventura, as something vital in preparing him for his later career.

Although he liked working at Hanna Barbera, he also wanted to live up to his potential to create works with an edgier style of humor.  That led to negotiations with executives at the Fox Broadcasting Company.

With a budget of $50,000, he was asked by Fox to create a pilot episode for a potential series. He spent months just working on what he called “crudely animated film” tirelessly. Six months later, he presented the result to Fox executives. They were so impressed they greenlit the series right away.

“Family Guy” premiered in 1999 on Century Fox, with Seth as the producer, writer, animator, and also providing his voice acting skill.

And that, my friends, is how Mr. Macfarlane became television’s youngest executive producer at the age of 24!

“Family Guy” went on to become an extremely popular and well-loved $1-billion franchise with a strong fanbase. Later, Fox paid Seth a massive $100 million to run “Family Guy” and Seth’s other work, “American Dad!” for the next 12 years.

By 35, he’s on the top of the world, becoming the world’s highest-paid television writer!

“Family Guy” won Macfarlane 5 Primetime Emmy Awards trophies: 4 for Outstanding Voice-Over Performance and 1 for Outstanding Music and Lyrics.

Aside from “Family Guy,” his other notable television works as an executive producer include: “American Dad!”, which he co-created with Mike Barker and Matt Weitzman; “The Cleveland Show,” a spin-off of “Family Guy”; and “The Orville,” a sci-fi comedy.

In 2012, Seth made his directorial debut with the comedy film “Ted,” also serving as the film’s writer and producer. The movie is about a 35-year old man who wishes to bring his favorite teddy bear to life. A talented voice actor, Seth also lent his voice to the film, playing the foul-mouthed, hard-partying stuffed bear brought to life.

“Ted” was a success and was followed by a sequel, “Ted 2”, in 2015.

He followed it with the 2014 Western comedy film, “A Million Ways to Die in the West,” which saw him co-starring with big names such as Charlize Theron, Amanda Seyfried, and Liam Neeson.

In 2017, Seth once again joined an ensemble cast for the 2017 heist comedy film “Logan Lucky.”
