So, are you ready?

Let’s now start the exciting dive into Sting’s wrestling journey!

Sting’s Professional Wrestling Journey

Continental Wrestling Association and Universal Wrestling Federation  (1985-1987)

Under the name of “Flash,” Sting started his career by being a member in a four-man unit called the Power Team USA, in independent All-California Championship Wrestling.

His teammates are Jim “Justice” Hellwig, Garland “Glory” Donahoe, and Mark “Comando” Miller.

However…

Sting, together with Hellwig, later moved to a wrestling company based in Memphis, Tennessee, called the Continental Wrestling Association (CWA).

Since then, they were known as the Freedom Fighters. But due to an uneventful run, in which they broke the leg of veteran wrestler Phil Hickerson, they left the CWA.

A new journey begins…

Sting and Hellwig now joined the Universal Wrestling Federation (UWF) and are now known as the Blade Runners.

He changed his name from Flash to Sting, while Hellwig is now known as Rock.

Sting won the UWF World Tag Team Championship with Gilbert in 1986 and with Rick Steiner in 1987.

World Championship Wrestling (1987-2001)

In 1988, Sting challenged Ric Flair for the NWA World Heavyweight Championship; however, after a forty-five-time limit expired, there’s no declared winner.

That same year, Sting was teamed with Koloff at The Great American Bash. They challenged  Horsemen Tully Blanchard and Arn Anderson for the NWA World Tag Team Championship. After a twenty-minute time-limit draw, they lost the match.

The journey continues…

After his win with Dusty Rhodes in the tag team championship at Starrcade ‘88, Sting returned to singles matches in 1989.

He had a match with Ric Flair to a one-hour draw in Omni Coliseum in Atlanta. Soon after, he started his first tour in All Japan Pro Wrestling.

Sting won his first NWA  title at the NWA Television Championship, which was held live.

It gets better…

Sting sided with his old rival Flair when Terry Funk’s stable attacked the latter’s mate at the NWA World Heavyweight Championship.

They won in the Thunderdome Cage match at the Halloween Havoc ‘89.

Soon after, this alliance with Flair resulted in Sting joining the Four Horsemen alongside Arn and Ole Anderson.

However…

After winning in a four-man round-robin Iron Man tournament at Starrcade ‘89, Sting became the number one contender for Flair’s NWA World title, which led to the tension with the Four Horsemen.

And it gets worse…

Sting got dismissed from The Four Horsemen in 1990 and started a rivalry with Flair.

But after suffering from a legitimate knee injury at the Clash of the Champions X: Texas Shootout, the World Championship Wrestling was forced to find a new opponent for Flair on the forthcoming Wrestle War pay-per-view.

And that’s just one side of the story…

Sting recovered, and he defeated Flair for the NWA World Heavyweight Championship on July 7, 1990.

1991-1995 Wrestling Journey

Sting teamed with Luger and had a match with The Steiner Brothers at the SuperBrawl I pay-per-view, considered the best match of 1991. But they lost the match after Koloff interfered and accidentally hit Sting with a chain.

The journey continues…

Sting won the WCW United States Heavyweight Championship after defeating Steve Austin in August 1991.

Not only that…

He also won the first-ever Battlebowl battle royal at the Starrcade ‘91.

Sting won his sixth WCW World Heavyweight Championships a year after when he defeated Luger at the Superbrawl II.

But wait, there’s more…

Sting formed Sting’s Squadron alongside Ricky Steamboat, Windham Koloff, and Dustin Rhodes.

They defeated the Dangerous Alliance, the group consisting of  Austin, Arn Anderson, Rude, Bobby Eaton, and Zbyszko, in the WarGames match at WrestleWar in May 1992.

It gets better…

Sting defended his WCW World Title after defeating Big Van Vader on April 12, 1992, at The Omni Coliseum in Atlanta.

In a Coal Miner’s Glove match at Halloween Havoc, he defeated Cactus Jack in a Falls Count Anywhere at Beach Blast and Jake Roberts, a WWC newcomer.

And better…

Sting won his WCW International World Heavyweight Championship from Rude in April 1994.

He teamed with Hulk Hogan in the second half of 1994 and 1995 against Kevin Sullivan, The Butcher, and Avalanche.

Sting defeated Meng twice and won another WCW United States Championships at The Great American Bash 1995 and Bash at the Beach 1995.

As if that’s enough…

He defeated Flair on a subsequent Monday Nitro and again at the World War 3 pay-per-view.

Sting won the World Cup of Wrestling in a non-title-match against the representative of New Japan Pro-wrestling, Kensuke Sasaki.

1996-2000 Wrestling Journey

Sting had a drastic change in 1996.

He replaced his blonde flat top cut with longer and darker hair. He also wore black tights with multi-colored scorpion but maintained his colorful face paint.

The journey continues…

Sting alongside Luger won the WCW World Tag Team Championship when they defeated Harlem Heat at the edition of Nito in January 1996.

In 1998, he won the WCC World Heavyweight at the SuperBrawl VIII.

It gets better…

Sting won his fifth WCW World Heavyweight Championship against Page on the edition of Nitro in April 1999.

But his title lasted for just ninety minutes. It was stolen without directly beating him by DDP when the latter defeated Nash.

2001-2020 Wrestling Journey

Sting signed a contract with the Total Nonstop Action Wrestling in 2003 and appeared in two interviews with Mike Tenay.

He won the NWA World Heavyweight Championship against Jeff Jarrett in July 200.

It gets better…

Sting defeated Samoa Joe and won the TNA World Heavyweight Championship in October 2008.

He appeared several times in the Monday night edition of Impact! in 2010 and 2013.

In 2016, he was announced to be the first member of the WWE Hall of Fame Class of 2016.

That same year, he announced his retirement at his Fame induction speech.

But wait, there’s more…

Sting returned to the ring and signed a contract with All Elite Wrestling in 2020.

He teamed with Darby Allin and defeated the Scorpio Sky team and Ethan Page at the All Elite Wrestling marquee event Double or Nothing on May 30, 2021.

And that’s just one side of the story…

Sting entered the show business industry and made his acting debut in the action-adventure show “Super Force” in 1990.

He was also featured in a commercial for Sprite in 1999.

As if that’s not enough…
