Who Is Post Malone?

Post Malone was born Austin Richard Post on July 4, 1995. He is an American singer, songwriter, producer, and actor. 

A native of New York City, Austin grew up right in the middle of the music scene, which explains his wide range of musical styles.

Post Malone’s father, Rich Post, worked as a disc jockey from his youth and exposed him in his early life to different music genres.

Posty grew up listening not only to hip hop but to rock and country as well….sounds which, later on, also manifested in his own musical works.

Post Malone’s mother is unknown but it’s reported that they’ve been in close contact and are in a good relationship.

Austin’s stepmother is named Jodie and he also maintains a great relationship with her.

Posty’s early life wasn’t so poverty-stricken like other artists. His father worked as a manager of concessions for the Dallas Cowboys, which also became the reason for his family’s move to Texas from the concrete jungle.

Austin lined up to audition for the band Crown the Empire in 2010. But as fate would have it, his guitar strings broke right there and then in the audition and because of that, he was rejected.

Post’s love for rock and emo music didn’t stop there.

He somehow found his way into the town’s emo heart and appeared as a disc jockey for the Emo Nite in Los Angeles, California in 2017, playing My Chemical Romance songs all the way.

Aside from rock, Posty’s main genre back then had also been heavy metal rock.

A long but gradual transition happened as he then crossed over to a softer kind of rock, and eventually, to hip hop.

Malone’s music career as well as his production skills started with him experimenting and exploring FL Studio.

At 16 years old, the resourceful aspiring musician began to experiment with the program Audacity as well.

And that’s how he made his first mixtape titled Young and After Them Riches.

Young Post distributed the first mixtape among his close classmates at Grapevine High School and received majorly positive feedback.  He was just 16 then.

After high school…

Austin Richard enrolled in Tarrant County College but soon dropped out.

Music was calling and he should go.

True enough, Post Malone packed his things and moved to Los Angeles, California together with Jason Probst, his longtime friend, and a professional game streamer.

Well, unlike others, it didn’t take very long for him to get noticed and penetrate the music industry, eventually, meeting and even being besties with high caliber names in Hollywood.

Along with other artists, Post Malone and Jason Probst joined together to form the music group BLCKVRD.

It was posty’s first dive into serious recording and releasing of music.

Soon enough…

The group, along with Post, moved into a house in San Fernando Valley in Los Angeles and recorded music together.

Fortunately for him, this position introduced Malone to several record producers including FKi 1st, as well as Lord Rich.

They’d eventually team up along with Rex Kudo to form a production team called FKi. 

They were the producers of Posty’s first hit White Iverson.

The lyrics of White Iverson refers to the Basketball Hall of Fame player named Allen Iverson. 

It was completed in February 2015 and was uploaded to Austin’s Soundcloud account. 

Later that year, he also released a music video for White Iverson. 

The verdict?

While it was infamously mocked by singer-songwriter and rapper Earl Sweatshirt, the track was also praised and applauded by big artists and fellow rappers such as Mac Miller and Wiz Khalifa. 

And that, people, was the start of the legend.

Not a month has passed since Post uploaded White Iverson and it had already garnered over a million views!

So what else do you expect to come next?

Unsurprisingly enough, several record labels noticed the talented singer and songwriter but only one prevailed.

It was Republic Records who got him to sign a recording contract that very same year.

Subsequently, Post Malone came closer to the big names in the music industry and soon met prominent musicians such as 50 cents, Kanye West, and Young Thug. 

And here’s the deal.

He soon got to perform in Kylie Jenner’s 18th birthday bash!

There, he met Kanye West and it paved the way for him to get closer to the music giant.

It proved successful because Kanye apparently enjoyed Austin’s music and the next year, the two were collaborating on Kanye’s single Fade for his album The Life of Pablo.

And as if Kanye’s not enough…

Seems like Posty knows a thing or two about successful networking because later on, he began a friendship with the Canadian singer and cultural icon Justin Bieber.

Little did he know (or did know!), it will kickstart his bountiful touring career. 

How? Well, he was invited by Justin to be the opening act for the Purpose World Tour that went on from 2016 to 2017.

In 2016 as well, Post Malone released his first-ever full-length project called August 26th, a mixtape.

The mixtape’s title referred to his upcoming debut album release.

In late 2016, Post was supposed to release the album Stoney. It was released a month later than the set date. The artist was quick to apologize for that.

Its single titled Congratulations featured a fellow hip hop artist Quavo and peaked at number 8 in the charts, making it his first song to get a spot on the chart’s top ten list.

To make it more impressive…

The album also featured songs I Fall Apart and Deja Vu which featured Justin Bieber. 

This album was later certified double platinum by the RIAA.

And it just got better.

In 2018, Post released the album Beerbongs & Bentleys with the first single Rockstar featuring artist 21 Savage.

The song peaked at number 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 and it held the top spot for eight consecutive weeks. 

Rolling Stone Magazine called Post Malone “one of the most popular musicians in the country.”

Upon its release…

Beerbongs & Bentleys broke the first-day streaming record on the music platform Spotify with over 78.7 streaming records globally!

Just after four days, it was certified platinum by the RIAA.

Post Malone’s Stoney also broke Michael Jackson’s record for the most number of weeks on the Billboards chart that he held for 34 years when it reached its 77th week on the chart against Michael’s Thriller’s 76 weeks.

Beerbongs & Bentleys was also nominated for Grammys with post performing with the band Red Hot Chili Peppers at the award show.

Post Malone released his third studio album Hollywood’s Bleeding in 2019 and it debuted number one on the Billboards hip hop albums chart.

Despite the Covid-19…

Post Malone’s concert at Denver’s Pepsi Center drew a sellout crowd of 20,000 and became one of the largest enclosed gathered crowd just before the pandemic lockdown started.
