Lori Greiner has created over 700 products and holds over 120 US and international patents. She is a well-known investor, inventor, and entrepreneur. She appears as an investor on the American business reality TV series Shark Tank and Beyond the Tank.”

Here comes the story of her beginnings…

She originally wanted to be a journalist, so she studied at Loyola University Chicago. She also worked as an intern on The Chicago Tribune.

But her life changed course, and a path to another career opened because of her passion for jewelry.

In college, she was already a jewelry designer. One evening she and her a friend were agonizing over what a nightmare jewelry boxes are, then – bam!

The idea of the plastic earring organizer was born.

In 1997, she decided to turn that idea into a reality…

She took a $300,000 loan to make a prototype of the plastic organizer that could store 100 earrings neatly. J.C.Penney picked it up before the holiday season, and it was a huge hit. Eventually, Greiner sold her other products there, too.

Then, she decided to pitch her product to QVC, but they rejected it. That didn’t stop her, though, because she turned to QVC’s rival – Home Shopping Network.

And what a shocking event that was…

… within two minutes of her first appearance on Home Shopping Network, she sold 2,500 earring organizers. It was sold out in an instant! The success following that allowed her to pay off her loan within eighteen months.

A year after, she transitioned to QVC and sold even more products, even having her program. It is called “Clever and Unique Creations by Lori Greiner.”

Now, she is the “Queen of QVC.”

ABC’s Shark Tank

Greiner received an offer to appear on Shark Tank’s first season and agreed to do it. However, she backed out after her mother passed away. In 2012, Greiner joined Shark Tank season three to replace Barbara Corcoran on four episodes. Ever since then, she became a permanent investor on the show.

Her treatment of the entrepreneurs who present their business ideas on the show earned her nicknames: the “warm-blooded shark” or the “shark with a heart.” She hosts the show with fellow sharks Kevin O’Leary, Barbara Corcoran, Daymond John, Robert Herjavec, and Mark Cuban.

Lori Greiner Career

Lori Greiner Scandals & Controversies

On one of Shark Tank season 11’s episodes, Greiner publicly showed and voiced her displeasure when Dr. Sarath Malepati presented ECZ Pak, his line of immune support pills. She accused him of ignoring her and focusing only on the male investors.

She was offended because the entrepreneur wasn’t looking at her even if she was the one talking to him, so Greiner clearly said she wouldn’t make a deal.

Kevin O’Leary ended up being the one who invested in the doctor’s product. He later tweeted in defense of Malepati and included Malepati’s apology for her.

In 2015, an inside “Shark Tank” fight happened over the smartphone app Scholly. While it usually takes around one hour before the sharks could decide whether to take a deal or not, Greiner made an offer just 10 minutes after Christopher Gray’s business presentation.

Cuban, Herjavec, and O’Leary became frustrated because they wanted to hear more about it, but she was aggressive. Daymond John eventually joined her to offer a deal, and they ended up splitting the deal 50-50.

She told Gray he should decide already, or she’s out. He took the deal.

The other sharks were frustrated because they thought that Greiner and John didn’t understand what they were doing. They accused both of them of offering the deal out of pity.

Greiner and John maintained that pity was not the reason they offered the deal and that it was because of the potential they saw in Scholly.
