In 1999, he started a premium line of tequila brand Cabo Wabo Tequila to serve the patrons at Cabo Wabo Cantina. In 2007, the Cabo Wabo Tequila became the second best-selling premium tequila in the US, earning about $60 million that year.

Because he was desperate to get out of his hometown, he moved to Riverside after graduating high school. He played in some local bands while working in the music department at a local store.

In June 2021, Hagar apologized for exposing late bandmate Eddie Van Halen’s “dark side” in his memoir.
In Hagar’s 2011 memoir entitled “Red: My Uncensored Life in Rock,” he called Eddie Van Halen a “very angry drunk.” He also said that “reunion tour in ’04 was some of the most miserable, back-stabbing dark crap I’ve ever been involved with my whole life.”
Eddie Van Halen died on October 6, 2020, because of cancer.
Before that, they were reportedly reconnected and resolved their bitter feelings toward each other.

He released a statement on his Instagram account to clarify his stand. He said he was “cautiously optimistic” because when he did that interview – on May 8th – the curve was already beginning to flatten.
