How Old Is Nolan North?
Nolan is 54 years old, and was born in Connecticut, America.
Before his voice career, Nolan was a reporter.
Yes, you’ve read that right.
Upon coming to New Jersey and with a background in Journalism in university, Nolan had taken a job as a reporter.
Nolan worked as a reporter for one year before calling it quits.
Apparently…
he found the job depressing.
According to him, his first assignment was covering a bear stuck in the tree. And when he interviewed people such as Al Gore as well as the Secretary of Housing and Urban Development, he was embarrassed by having the cameras and microphones over his shoulder.
Soon enough, the stories he covered were wearing him out not only physically but emotionally.
He shared: “It was just depressing. If it bleeds, it leads. You saw a side of life that was just not good.”
Awww.
After some thought, he ran to his brother and told him a sudden decision that had just occurred to him.
“What would you want to do if everyone was dead and you didn’t have anyone you thought you had to do things for?’
The next day, I started running and just ran all day. I had to go into a pizza place and call my brother. We sat down and I said, you’re going to think I’m crazy, but I want to be an actor.”
Now that’s a strange making of a legend.
Fortunately for him, his brother supported his sudden change of heart and motivated him to go for it, saying that if there’s someone who can do it in their family, it’s him.
So off he went.
Upon resigning, the Star Trek talent was offered a promotion by the TV station but he refused it.
It made his mother beside herself with frustration but Nolan went on with his plan.
And that’s not all.
Soon, he’s in New York doing stand up comedy and theater.
The voice actor soon realized that it’s an occupation that’s far from glamorous but it made him go for it all the more.
He was so broke that his friend had to buy him a mattress to sleep on. Every day, they would stand the mattress up against the door so they could freely walk to the kitchen.
Talk about humble beginnings!
One fortunate day, he and his friend got drunk and his friend told him to go to California and be a star.
So he decided to go big or go home.
Nolan bought a one-way ticket and landed a job six months later!

The future lead voice actor of famous video games and films made his cameo debut in 1997 in a General Hospital spin-off series called “Port Charles” as Dr. Chris Ramsey.
During this time, he was already starting to pave a path on voice work.
His fellow voice actor and co-star in Port Charles, John Lindstrom was the one who pointed him towards what would be his ticket to stardom.
This career began after Lindstrom told him that he could make a few extra bucks doing voice acting. It was in 1999 when he voice acted the role of Hinkley in the video game “Interstate ‘82.”
Then Port Charles was canceled in 2003.
Good thing, Nolan North has already learned his trade and he decided to focus on this career path after the canceled TV show.
It proved to be the best move of his life.
Nolan North worked as a voice actor throughout the early 2000s in several video games such as for the role of the fish in the game The Cat in the Hat in 2003, several characters in EverQuest II in 2004, and SWAT 4, Area 51, and The Incredible Hulk: Ultimate Destruction in 2005.
Yep, he hasn’t been without a job since then!
But it gets better.
Nolan North’s first and biggest break ever came in 2007 when he landed the role of Nathan Drake for the motion capture in Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune video game.
He performed so well that the developers can’t imagine anyone doing the voice work for Nathan Drake other than Nolan North.
He played the iconic role all through the next installations namely Uncharted 2: Among Thieves in 2009, Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception in 2001, and Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End in 2016.
And it didn’t end there.
North was also invited to voice work for the PlayStation Vita exclusive called Uncharted: Golden Abyss in 2012.
Everyone agreed that Nolan North truly owned Nathan Drake, and for this stint, he received a nomination at the Spike Video Game Awards twice in the Best Performance by a Human Male category.
Turns out, that’s just the beginning.
Gradually, Nolan climbed the ladder, joining the ranks of the best-known voice actors of the generation by snagging the most famous game roles out there.
He did voice acting as the Prince in the Prince of Persia, as Vossler in Final Fantasy XII, David in the Last of Us, Dr. Edward Richtofen in the Call of Duty zombies mode, Superboy in Young Justice, as Eradan in Lord of the Rings: War in the North, Brawl in Transformers: War for Cybertron, and the male Jedi Consualar in the Star Wars: The Old Republic and its next expansions.
He also played the part of Desmond Miles in the much-loved Assassin’s Creed series, Captain Martin Walker in Spec Ops: The Line.
And in case you love Dota…
…you’d be surprised to know that Nolan has also voiced several characters in Dota 2 such as Lycan, Shadow Demon, Brewmaster, Lone Druid, Troll Warlord, Earth Spirit, Ogre Magi, Meepo, Gyrocopter, and the Keeper of the Light.
And he’s also in the Team Fortress 2! He voice-acted the characters the Engineer, Merasmus, Redmond Mann, Bombinomicon, Zephania Mann, and Blutarch Mann.
Here’s the kicker.
Nolan North was also taken as a replacement for Peter Dinklage for the character Ghost in Destiny: The Taken King.
While it certainly was flattering to him, Nolan admitted to feeling uncomfortable as there were fans who liked the Game of Thrones actor and there were those who didn’t.
But he soon learned to cope with it and owned the role as he was made to re-record all of Peter’s lines.
Soon, he was also portraying the character Nathan Fillion throughout Destiny 2: Forsaken.
Over the years, Nolan has managed to voice hundreds of video game characters already.
But more than that…
