We’re excited to give you an insight into how Markie enjoyed his success and wealth. But before that, let’s take a look at his career and controversies.
Markie came into the limelight when hip hop was still progressing.
One of the first glimpses we see of Biz is of a laid-back teenager jamming out on the 1986 Dutch hip-hop documentary “Big Fun in the Big Town.”
He gained recognition as a beatboxer for Roxanne Shante of the Juice Crew collective. He then performed at Long Island parties, rap battles, and he worked as a nightclub DJ in New York City.
As word of his insane beatbox and rapping skills spread, he started doing gigs in Pennsylvania, Maryland, Washington, and Virginia.
In 1985, Markie released his single “Def Fresh Crew.” Not long after, he signed with Prism Records and released singles, including “Just Rhymin’ with Biz” with Big Daddy Kane.
By 1988, he released his first studio album, “Goin’ Off,” selected by the Source Top 100 Best Rap Albums 1988.
His hit single, “Just a Friend,” was released in 1989 under his second studio album, “The Biz Never Sleeps.”
Unfortunately, his subsequent studio albums weren’t as hot as the first two.
He also worked with Rolling Stones, Len, Wu-Tang Clan, Chris Rock, and the Beastie Boys.

Chart Toppers
In 1991, Markie received a lawsuit by Gilbert O’Sullivan claiming that the “Alone Again” track contained an unauthorized sample from his hit “Alone Again (Naturally).”
Biz’s record label had to pull his third album, “I Need a Haircut” (Cold Chillin’/ Warner Bros) from circulation and remove the samples before the release.
Markie mischievously titled his next studio album, “All Samples Cleared!”
Unfortunately, the damage was done. . .
Neither his third or fourth album did exceptionally well on the charts.
Aside from writing and composing his songs, Markie spent money to produce all his new studio albums.
He also produced some short films.
