Back to what I was saying earlier…

As I said, Grylls purchased an island in Wales in 1999, years before he started hosting “Man vs. Wild.” The actual cost remains undisclosed.

The island occupies 20 acres and has a cottage to be renovated.

But consider this…

…he spent the next four years pinching pennies to make the necessary repairs after the purchase.

Bear Grylls Controversies & Litigation

Bear Grylls vs. Discovery Channel

Bear Grylls has been fired by the US television network Discovery Channel in a contract dispute.

It came after the network reportedly was unable to get Grylls to engage in two unannounced projects for which he was contracted, sources claim.

“Due to a continuing contractual dispute with Bear Grylls, Discovery has terminated all current productions with him,” a spokesperson of the channel claimed.

A Grylls spokesman said that he and the network were unable to agree concerning new programming – and had split up as a result.

“Bear’s goal has always been to make life-empowering shows for his many fans around the globe, and he has taken great risks to bring Discovery such award-winning programming over seven seasons,” said Heather Krug in an interview.

As if that’s not enough…

…she also added, “Unfortunately, Bear and Discovery have not been able to come to a mutual agreement on new programming, and he disagrees with Discovery’s decision to terminate current productions. Bear has loved the Man vs. Wild journey and looks forward to producing further cutting-edge content again soon for his loyal audience.”

However, this wasn’t the first time that Discovery Channel has had a conflict with its talent.

In 2010, “Deadliest Catch” Captains Jonathan and Andy Hillstrand were sued by the network for allegations of failing to complete work on the Hillstrand spinoff.

The 3-million-dollar lawsuit forced the Hillstrands and Captain Sig Hansen to resign, but the dispute was settled a month later. The litigation would then later be dropped, and all three went back to work on the show.
