Austin Lee Russell is no ordinary employee of the Gold and Silver Pawn Shop. And the said establishment is no ordinary business!
Before everything else…
The Gold and Silver Pawn Shop is the Harrisons’ family business. It was started by the late Richard Harrison, a reality star, in Las Vegas, Nevada. His son, Rick Harrison, worked for him first before taking over the shop in his stead. And then Corey Harrison, Rick’s child, is following in on the footsteps.
These people are as close to Austin “Chumlee” Russell as family.
Corey was his childhood friend. Chumlee was even often mistaken to be the child of Rick Harrison instead of Corey.
That was how he ended up working for them.
When Chumlee was 21, he started to work as the counter boy for the pawn shop. He was the guy who made tickets for the items purchased.
Five years later, in 2009, the television series ‘Pawn Stars’ debuted on History Channel.
The show featured the day-to-day deals that the shop made – both the good and bad ones. After a lot of production companies turned them down, they finally got their shot.
And a TV star was born!
As the History Channel television series gained popularity…
so did Chumlee. At first, he was the ‘village idiot,’ with his dumb remarks and the rest of the cast members making fun of him. But then, in the second season, he suddenly burst through the frontlines.
He showed off his expertise in appraising vintage pinball machines, video games, and sneakers to the fans’ delight. Much to Rick Harrison and Corey’s surprise, too. They were all inseparable for years, but they just knew him as the guy who looked like the walrus in ‘Tennessee Tuxedo.’
In 2012, he appeared in the American TV series ‘iCarly’ alongside Rick Harrison and Corey. (You can watch that episode if you just click HERE!)
And even though in History Channel he wasn’t the highest-paid star, he gets the highest salary in other personal appearances.
Chumlee was the crowd favorite.
While everyone was all for the money, Chumlee added some fun to the show. And as he became more and more famous, he expanded his horizons. And alongside his career growth, he was taking care of his health.
He had a weight loss surgery which proved to be really successful. After losing several pounds, he maintained it by eating right.
Soon enough, he was no longer the guy who did the tickets for items purchased in the shop. Neither was he just the expert at vintage pinball machines. He eventually became a successful businessman.
You’ll know more about Chumlee’s Candy on the Boulevard later.
And also…
There’s a lot to say about the time he got arrested. Yes, this adorable ‘pawn star’ had a feud with the law a few years ago.
So stay tuned!

How the Harrison family runs the Gold and Silver Pawn Shop in Las Vegas, Nevada
Chumlee’s Candy on the Boulevard was established in May 2017. The ‘Pawn Stars’ cast member built the candy shop in Las Vegas right across the Gold and Silver Pawn Shop.
I guess…
You can say that Chumlee is a dedicated businessman.
After an active social media presence, he deleted everything from his Instagram except photos of his candy shop. He captioned one of the said posts with a customer survey about what they wanted to see in his store.
But before that…
Austin Lee Russell also opened his own company selling novelty items in 2010. The stuff he sold, including the t-shirts, he designed himself. Because of his popularity, the store proved successful.
His merchandise sales even went higher than the other stars in the show.
Later on, Chumlee sold half of his shares to Rick Harrison so that the company can be managed more efficiently.

The American reality television star was born on September 8, 1982, in Henderson, Nevada. His real name is Austin Lee Russell.
Then when he was 12…
One of his friends’ fathers noticed that he looked like Chumley of ‘Tennessee Tuxedo,’ the animated TV series. Combining it with his middle name, they came up with the nickname “Chumlee”!
It wasn’t a very flattering resemblance.
Chumley is a walrus, after all, with a beard and a big belly. But instead of allowing it to put him down, Austin embraced being Chumlee – and became one of the most famous people in Las Vegas!
He was childhood friends with one of his ‘Pawn Stars’ co-stars, Corey Harrison. And even now, they’re inseparable.
Chumlee’s Education
Austin Lee Russell didn’t graduate from any high school. He wasn’t a good student – and he’s not ashamed to call himself that. He said that he used to pay classmates to do his homework in his early life.
No wonder…
Being a “dumb” employee is a part of his act. It’s one of those Chumlee traits that makes his fans laugh.

Chumlee and Olivia Rademann Russell started dating in 2016. They announced their engagement in 2019 and got married in a private ceremony in Hawaii shortly after.
Whether the reality television star is still married today, nobody knows.
That’s right.
When Chumlee cryptically deleted his whole Instagram collection of photos in 2020, that included posts about and with his wife. There’s no confirmation about a divorce or separation. Only the hint of a difficult long-distance relationship.
Some fans speculate that they finally decided to keep it private as much as possible. Others say that maybe he just wanted to focus more on his candy store and television career.
Our guess is just as good as yours…
Austin “Chumlee” Russell’s father
There’s not much to know about Chumlee’s family. The ‘Pawn Stars’ crowd favorite still manages to live a private personal life.
But…
We know the tragic story of how his father died at 54 of pancreatic cancer. And that happened just two weeks before ‘Pawn Stars’ debuted.
He could’ve seen his son on reality television in his Gold and Silver Pawn Shop uniform. But sadly, life got in the way…
Being a celebrity has its ups and downs. And Chumlee is not exempted. Did you know he got arrested? We have the details just a few scrolls down!
But first…
Let’s look at the “ups” of his career. The list may be short, but you know what they say – less is more!
Like all reality TV shows, ‘Pawn Stars’ has been accused of faking it several times. That’s unsurprising. But probably the worst controversy the shop has ever faced was back in 2013.
In November that year…
Jennifer Beckman pawned a bunch of gold coins to the Gold and Silver Pawn Shop. Apparently, she stole those from her uncle David Walter’s collection. It amounted to $50,000, which was a little disappointing for Beckman.
The Harrisons were notified of the theft only a month later. By that time, the coins were already melted.
But that’s nothing compared to Chumlee’s.
He’s adorable and funny, but he’s got a rebel side of him.
On May 23, 2016, Austin Lee Russell pled guilty to 20 counts of felony. That included unlawful possession of a firearm and attempted drug possession. And he paid for it with three years of counseling and probation.
And even worse…
The police were at his house in March of the same year because of a sexual assault investigation. Instead of evidence related to the allegations, they found cocaine paraphernalia, crystal meth, marijuana, the anti-anxiety drug Xanax, and a collection of firearms.
Talk circulated about the History Channel show firing Chumlee for the controversy. Luckily for the fans, they were just rumors.
Unlike what one may expect, pinball machines and other old stuff aren’t a part of Chumlee’s collection. Neither are houses.
So, where does he funnel his net worth?
First and foremost is what seems to be the priority in his life right now, his Chumlee’s Candy on the Boulevard, where he invests a chunk of his wealth.
And did you know?
Chumlee is a huge car enthusiast. He’s got a lot of other collections – that’s a fun fact that we’ve listed for you – but his impressive cars are his most prized ones.

Chumlee doesn’t live in the raided house anymore. After his arrest, he downsized from his 2-acre Las Vegas, Nevada home. He purchased it for $1.1 million in 2012. Then in 2017, he listed it for around $1.8 million.
It took two years before the five-bedroom, six-bathroom mansion was sold.

But he’s mostly seen in his 1986 Buick Regal.

Chumlee is an active participant in the charity initiative of the ‘Pawn Stars’ team.
In 2016, Rick Harrison and the rest of the gang started a meet and greet with the show’s fans. Every fan purchase that they signed will have the proceeds go to the non-profits that they support.
