As Paul works on the manuscript, Annie grows increasingly unstable, and he realizes that she plans to keep him imprisoned forever.

Desperate to escape, Paul twists the story of Misery’s Child to make Annie its villain, Misery Chastain. When Annie reads the new novel, Misery, Chastain kills Paul in a rage.
