Eddie Guerrero was a Mexican-American professional wrestler born on October 9, 1967, in El Paso, Texas, USA.

He went to Thomas Jefferson High School and then to the University of New Mexico. Then he received an athletic scholarship which led him to transfer to New Mexico Highlands University.

Let’s just say that the Guerrero wrestling family had high expectations.

Good thing…

Guerrero began wrestling as the original Mascara Magica in Consejo Mundial de Lucha Libre in 1986. And he had a promising start.

From Mexico, he went to Japan to perform for New Japan Pro-Wrestling. His fans knew him as Black Tiger II.

Guerrero then moved to the USA to compete at Extreme Championship Wrestling. He worked his way up to World Championship Wrestling. And finally, in World Wrestling Federation/Entertainment.

In 1995…

Guerrero defeated Jericho in the WCW World Cruiserweight Championship. After that, Guerrero represented WCW when they fought against the NJPW World Cup. He went along with his fellow WCW stars, Benoit and Malenko.

He was one of the final 10, but they ultimately lost to Randy Savage.

But that was only a minor setback.

Because in 1996, Guerrero won the WCW United States Heavyweight Championship.

He dominated the ring through the years.

Eddie bagged the WWE United States Championship, WWF European Championship, and the WWF Intercontinental Championship.

Sadly…

Guerrero had to stand down in 2001 because of addiction issues.

It wasn’t until 2002 when Eddie and his nephew, Chavo, won their first WWE Tag Team Championship. The duo was known as Los Guerreros.

A year later…

… Guerrero launched a new brand. He drove a lowrider to ringside and yelled his signature chant, ‘I lie! I cheat! I steal!’

Then in 2004, he was named the SmackDown! Royal Rumble champion. It paved his way to winning the WWE Championship in the same year.

It was all going well.

After Guerrero defeated Mysterio in some matches and Mysterio defeated Guerrero in others – the two teamed up in 2005. Eddie was with Rey Mysterio when he bagged the WWE Tag Team Championships for the fourth time.

Then Batista defeated Guerrero during the World Heavyweight Championship. But then Guerrero secured a place in the 2005 Survivor Series.

And then the fateful day came.

Guerrero was found unconscious in his hotel bathroom on November 13, 2005. He died of acute heart failure.

Eddie was mourned by his family and friends, especially his wife Vickie Guerrero and three daughters.

In 2006, he was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame.
