Next, he attended the University of Tennessee, majoring in Psychology and minoring in Educational Philosophy. Once again, he played basketball, this time as a center for the Tennessee Volunteers Basketball team. Although he was a team member for three years and even made it to the NCAA Sweet 16, the constant dispute between him and the head coach made him stop playing and he considered transferring to Bowling Green State University.

Instead…

Kevin Nash moved to Europe. There, he was able to play as a professional basketball player.

Unfortunately…

A knee injury ended his basketball career in 1981. He decided to just enlist in the U.S Army, and over time, got promoted to the specialist rank in a NATO facility. His post-Army days were spent working various jobs before he decided to join the world of professional wrestling.

Career

In 1990, sporting an orange mohawk, Kevin Nash made his debut in World Championship Wrestling or WCW. As “Steel,” he was part of the tag team The Master Blasters. Although he was initially partnered with Master Blaster Iron, his partner was later replaced by “Blade.”

After several victories, the Master Blasters earned an NWA United States Tag Team Championship title. Their winning streak didn’t last that long, though, and the tag team eventually disbanded.

Following a few losses, Kevin Nash made his comeback the next year, repackaged as silver-haired Oz. This gimmick wasn’t successful, however, and the following year saw him debut at the Clash of the Champions XVIII as the repackaged Vinnie Vegas.

As Vinnie Vegas, he joined the stable The Diamond Mine, which Diamond Dallas Page led. Subsequently, Vegas partnered with Page to form The Vegas Connection, and later, with Big Sky.

However…

Kevin Nash soon left WCW to sign a contract with World Wrestling Federation, or WWF, at the request of his friend Shawn Michaels.

He was immediately given the stage name Diesel with “Big Daddy Cool” as a nickname, and Nash debuted at a house show in 1993. He and Michaels became known as Two Dudes with Attitudes, with Diesel introduced as Michaels’ bodyguard and best friend.

At the 1993 WWF Intercontinental Championship, Diesel helped Michaels defeat Marty Jannetty, and at the Royal Rumble the following year, he single-handedly eliminated seven men in just under eighteen minutes of in-ring time.

After winning the 1994 WWF Tag Team Championship, Diesel and Michaels’ partnership dissolved after Michaels accidentally superkicked Diesel. The whole incident caused the team to vacate the titles; however, it also turned Diesel into a babyface.

Diesel was victorious against Bob Backlund at a WWF Championship at Madison Square Garden. On their next match, Michaels, who didn’t like the fact that his former “bodyguard” had beaten him to the WWF Championship, along with other wrestlers, interfered with the match, resulting in the match ending in a draw.

At WrestleMania XI, Diesel had beaten Michaels, enabling him to keep the title. In an unexpected turn of events, Michaels was betrayed by his new bodyguard at the Monday Night Raw. This made Diesel come to Michaels’ rescue, and by the end of the night, the tag team was reunited. On top of this, Diesel succeeded in defending the WWF Championship title, and his reign lasted for 358 days, making him the record-holder for the longest WWF Championship reign in the 1990s.

Around this time, WCW President Eric Bischoff was going around offering lucrative contracts to WWF talents. After a defeat from The Undertaker at WrestleMania XII and another fight with Shawn Michaels, Nash wrestled Michaels for the WWF Championship title in his last televised WWF appearance until 2002.

Although he lost the match, it didn’t end bitterly; Nash, Michaels, Razor Ramon, and Hunter Hearst Helmsley, who have formed an off-screen friendship group called The Kliq, embraced one another while giving each other a farewell. This incident would later be referred to as the “MSG Incident” or “Curtain Call”.

Afterward, Kevin Nash jumped ship to WCW and founded the New World Order or nWo with Hulk Hogan and Scott Hall.

He ended the decade winning the WCW Heavyweight Championship twice before losing it to Booker T at the Fall Brawl. WCW was later sold to WWF, and Kevin Nash was among the WCW talents to be rehired by WWF.

In 2004, he made his debut in Total Nonstop Action Wrestling at the Victory Road, alongside Scott Hall. The duo assisted Jeff Jarrett to retain his NWA World Heavyweight Champion title in a ladder match. The three wrestlers started calling themselves the Kings of Wrestling in the following weeks.

The trio broke the alliance when Hall departed from TNA, and Nash expressed his desire to win the NWA World Heavyweight Championship. Nash lost to Jarrett in a 2005 Against All Odds match. Nash then partnered with Sean Waltman against Planet Jarrett. Nash and his allies were scheduled to wrestle with Jarrett, The Outlaw, and Monty Brown in a Lethal Lockdown match, but Nash had to be removed from the card after contracting a staph infection.

Later that year, Kevin Nash made his TNA return at an “Impact!” episode. A day before the Bound for Glory match, Nash had to be hospitalized for chest pains. It was later revealed that he had suffered from a mild cardiac episode.

The following year, Nash made another TNA comeback and founded a stable called Paparazzi Productions, and the stable The Main Event Mafia in 2008.

Kevin Nash won his first TNA title at Victory Road when he defeated A.J. Styles for the Legends Championship title.

Once his TNA contract expired in 2010, he announced his retirement from professional wrestling and made his last televised TNA appearance.

Even so…

He didn’t completely disappear from the wrestling world; in fact, he fought in several matches beginning in 2011 and also appeared in the professional wrestling TV show “WWE NXT.”

In 2015, Kevin Nash was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame, Class of 2015, by The Kliq member and Nash’s friend Shawn Michaels. For the second time, he was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame, this time for the Class of 2020 and as an nWo member, alongside Hulk Hogan, Scott Hall, and Sean Waltman.

As an actor, Kevin Nash has appeared in films such as Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: The Secret of the Ooze,” “The Punisher,” Magic Mike,” and John Wick.”
