Nora Roberts’ book “Midnight Bayou” was published in 2001.

In this novel, Declan Fitzgerald had always been the family outcast, yet he couldn’t understand why he feels compelled to acquire a run-down estate on the outskirts of New Orleans.

All he knows is that he’d been enchanted—and obsessed—with Manet Hall ever since he first saw it.

And that’s not all.

Declan begins the difficult renovation room by room, depending on his effort and expertise to restore Manet Hall to its former glory. The days spent in complete seclusion in the empty house, though, take their toll.

He’s seeing sights from a century ago, and he’s feeling fear and nearly terrible grief—sensations that aren’t his own but those of a stranger.

The house is haunted by a popular local myth, and Declan’s belief in the ghostly presence intensifies with each passing day.

Through this…

Only the beautiful Angelina Simone’s company can distract him from the strange events in the mansion.

Still, Angelina, too, has an unexpected connection to Manet Hall—a link that will help Declan unearth a century-old mystery.

“Legacy” is one of the best Nora Roberts books, published in 2021. In the story, a girl, Adrian Rizzo met her father for the first time when she was seven years old, and that was the day he came close to killing her—until her mother, Lina, intervened.

Adrian was handed off to her grandparents’ house in Maryland shortly after, where she spent blissfully the summer sipping lemonade, playing with dogs, making a new best friend…

…and developing feelings for her friend’s ten-year-old brother.

On the flip side, Lina traversed the country marketing her fitness brand, which she grew into a trillion-dollar enterprise. It was pointless to ruminate on the past, right?

What you might not know…

Adrian has produced her yoga and workout DVDs a decade later, following in Lina’s footsteps but retaining creative control. And she shares her mother’s childlike curiosity and desire.

They’re not close, but they’re friendly—as long as they don’t cross each other.

While Lina views Adrian’s death threats as a normal part of her daughter’s growing fame, Adrian can’t help but be disturbed by the vicious rhymes.

Like, who wouldn’t be disturbed, right?

They keep showing up year after year, with different postmarks but the same threatening tone.
