But if you are an OG fan, you’d know him best as a FIFA game commentator on YouTube.
But who is KSI, really?
Olajide Olayinka Williams Olatunji – best known as JJ or KSI – was born on June 19, 1993 and is of Nigerian descent.
His father, Jide Olatunji, was from Ibadan, Nigeria while his mother, Yinka Olatunji, came from Islington, London.
As he was born in Watford, Hertfordshire, he considers himself English.
He grew up with one brother, Oladeji Daniel “Deiji” Olatunji, who is a famous YouTube personality too.
The Young KSI
He or Olajide grew up in the rich suburbs of Watford in Hertfordshire.
His parents say he was a shy boy growing up.
But despite his timidness, he had made quite a good bunch of friends at school.
That includes Simon Minter who he knew since they were 11 years old.
Want to know the best part?
They would soon be famous YouTube personalities and even share a home – along with other friends.
It gets better.
He was raised in a fairly middle-class household so he was able to enjoy a comfortable life and even study in a posh, independent school.
But the formal set-up at school didn’t prove beneficial to him.
He soon had a passion for FIFA video games and recording videos.
He decided to make a career out of it.
This fellow YouTuber – who goes by the name of Seana or Seanyyy on YouTube – was apparently His teenage girlfriend.
The two dated back in 2012.
What we know is that they maintained a fairly private relationship for two years before they eventually broke up. The reason was then unknown and neither party gave a statement.
But wait, there’s more…
… Seana was quite inactive on YouTube for years.
But then, 4 years after their breakup, she posted a video called “What Really Happened.”
In the video, she divulged a couple of details about their relationship.
Speaking about their breakup, she said, “Obviously we broke up about three years ago and people still ask why to this day. We were very young when we first met. I met JJ when I was 17. He lived in London, I lived in Newcastle so it was long (sic) distance. He was also really busy with his YouTube, he didn’t have time for a relationship and he wanted to go out and enjoy himself which every lad does. I have moved on, he’s moved on.”
He also dated Lois Sharpe in 2017. Learning from the past, he worked extra hard to keep this relationship not only private but a secret.
But here’s the tea!
Later in that year, rumors spread that he was dating Jean Watts.
… it proved to be fake news aiming to divert the attention away from his secret girlfriend. Later on, he decided to reveal the identity of his girlfriend in a video called “Mauritius with my Girlfriend.”
Well, a month later they broke up.
He then announced his singleness in a live broadcast on Instagram. According to him, they apparently wanted different things.
The YouTuber’s latest girlfriend may be unknown, but in his Instagram post about his rigorous training in Las Vegas for his fight with Logan Paul, he made a reference to his “beautiful girlfriend.”
“My body has been pushed to a point I never knew I had. I came to Vegas to be trained by the best with no distractions and I have come out an absolute beast. Throughout this period I have missed my family, my friends, and my beautiful girlfriend, but they all understood that my training in Vegas was necessary,” he wrote.
But wait, it gets better!
He was also rumored to have dated Marina Joyce and Nia Pickering.
Woah! Slow down, hot stuff!
In 2013, he and some of his closest friends formed the group Ultimate Sidemen, which was eventually shortened to just Sidemen and sometimes abbreviated to SDMN.
It consisted of seven British YouTubers, namely: KSI, Vikkstar123 (Vikram Barn), ZerkaaHD (Josh Bradley),TBJZ (Tobi Brown), W2S (Harry Lewis), Miniminter (Simon Minter), and Behzinga (Ethan Payne).
They regularly upload videos mostly consisting of funny sketches, gaming, and challenges online. They also have their exclusive Sidemen merchandise.
Olajide was educated at Berkhamsted Boys School where he first met Simon “Miniminter” Minter. He soon became one of the members of Sidemen, a group of British YouTubers along with Him.
The school is a leading independent school in Britain which He himself described as “posh.”
He argued with his parents that the school and its outdated lessons were not for him. He dropped out at age 15 when he realized he was earning more than his teacher.
Now, that’s crazy!
Mark Steed, his former Berkhamsted headteacher tweeted that He was “undoubtedly the most famous former pupil from my time in headship.”
He lightheartedly tweeted back, “Why’d you kick me out though?”
Woah! Calm chill your beans…
KSI YouTube Career
When he created his first YouTube account “JideJunior” in 2008, he was earning around £1,500 a month.
That’s also where he got his nickname “JJ.”
His first video – which was posted on the same day as the channel was created – was titled “Looking Through Space.” It was a school project that he made with his friend, Patrick.
But wait, there’s more!
For over a year, he uploaded FIFA game commentaries and rap videos leading up to his last video on this channel in March of 2009.
He carried on using the account until 2011; though in 2013, fans noticed that he updated his ‘Favorites’ playlist.
From that, they concluded this was the last time he had logged in.
In some of his vlogs, he revealed that he had actually forgotten the password to that account.
Hmmm…do you buy that, though?
Anyway, come 2009, he began his official channel and continued uploading gaming videos with FIFA and Modern Warfare games dominating it.
Two years later, he ventured into vlogging with his first vlog called ‘KSIOlajidebt Vlog’s’ I The History of my Name.’
In this video, he revealed the meaning behind his new screen name.
He told his audience it means Knowledge, Strength, and Integrity, he also revealed his face to his viewers for the very first time.
KSI Scandals & Controversies
KSI vs. The Community
His successful career was not without controversies.
In fact, he was pretty much surrounded by them left and right.
He’s known for his rough – and sometimes controversial – jokes and humor such as the “rape face” which appeared in most of his videos early on in his career.
This made some women’s coalitions and groups furious.
As if that’s not enough…
… they went so far as to ask YouTube to take down his videos which contain the alleged offensive joke among others.
Though YouTube didn’t issue any statement regarding this, His spokesman stepped forward to address the matter.
He said the offensive videos have since been taken down.
He has also long refrained from referencing or using the offensive joke.
Cat got your tongue, KSI?
… the spokesman noted it was all in the past and He is now acknowledged he had made a mistake as a teenager.
KSI vs. Eurogames
He was also condemned for his actions at a Eurogames event in 2012 where he was said to have verbally and sexually harassed some staff and attendees.
Because of this, Eurogames banned him from all their future events. Not long after that fiasco, Microsoft followed suit, cutting all ties with him.
On the other hand…
… KSI’s manager issued a statement saying KSI had changed since then – and that he wasn’t completely canceled by Eurogames after all.
The statement insists KSI had already apologized directly to the owner of Eurogames.
… the two parties are said to be on good terms now.
KSI vs. Brother Deji
In November of 2018, a feud between KSI and his younger brother, Deji, broke out.
It started when Deji revealed KSI’s personal bank details in a video.
KSI expressed disappointment towards his brother’s actions, as well as towards his parents for allowing it.
A couple of months later, in 2019, Deji apologized to his brother, holding himself accountable for his “impulsive and rash” behavior and then making the video private afterward.
It doesn’t end there!
He made the video public again by May of 2019, causing further disappointment from his brother, stating on a Twitter post that he’s done with him.
KSI and his brother made up later in the year, reducing the feud to a simple fight between brothers which was blown out of proportion because of its publicity.
KSI vs. The Sidemen
Come 2017, he announced through Twitter that he was planning on parting ways with the Sidemen. He followed this up with a video indicating Behzinga was his main reason for leaving.
This started what was called the Sidemen’s war, with Behzinga initiating a diss track war as his response.
But wait, there’s more!
WS2 joined in with his own diss track titled “KSI Sucks.”
After a couple of days, RiceGum joined forces with KSI with a track against Behzinga called “Earthquake” while KSI released “Little Boy” the very next day as a response to W2S.
Behzinga released a response to “Earthquake,” which KSI removed later on.
But here’s the kicker!
The feud still lasted a while longer with a few more diss tracks.
