Jill Scott Movies and TV Shows: Singer-songwriter turned actress Jill Scott was born in 1972 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

Her father had been a truck driver, while her mother was an educator. Jill Scott has two brothers and three sisters.

The future star went to the girls’ high school in Philadelphia. Jill Scott began singing in the gospel choir of Union Baptist Church in West Philadelphia at age eight.

At age eighteen, she enrolled as an English major at Temple University.

After one semester, she left school to pursue a career in music.
