…Because that was the reason and inspiration behind all the books he wrote, from inviting a seal to live with him to go to live with the monks.

#1. Living with a SEAL: 31 Days Training with the Toughest Man on the Planet

New York Times Bestseller by Jesse Itzler.

Jesse Itzler Books

Living with a SEAL: 31 Days Training with the Toughest Man on the Planet is a thirty-one-day comical experience of Jesse Itzler while he invites a real-life Navy SEAL to live with him in his family’s apartment. The events that unfold give a lot of benefits to Jesse and a bundle of laughter to the readers.

This hilarious fitness memoir came into being when Jesse met David Goggins, an ex-navy SEAL in a San Diego ultramarathon, and was impressed by his stamina and endurance. David kept on with the race despite his shin splints, foot injuries, and failing kidneys, ultimately finishing the race.

That said…

After the race, Jesse decides to get trained by him, based on the SEAL’s performance. So, he searched up David Goggins and straight-up offered to come to live with him and teach him for one month, unaware of the fact that what kind of a one-month-long training hell he is putting himself in.

The SEAL David Goggins agrees that Jesse would do everything as told without question.

So…

…living with a seal starts from jumping into ice-cold water to doing 150 pull-ups. The story is all about pushing your limits physically and mentally, and Jesse is a hilarious writer who made it as excellent as possible.

Of course, as he is, Jesse didn’t hold back any of the grueling details involved in the training with the SEAL, one of the most elite warriors, and the marital complexities that arise upon inviting him to move in with your family.

The events in the book, at times,” do seem like a bit of bat shit insane, are worth admiring because they motivate you to go beyond your limits; as Jesse said in the book:

What you think you’re capable of is only about 40% of what you are truly capable of.”

Jesse being a compulsively motivated human being, believed in this fact. He achieved crazy success in all walks of life by acting on this golden rule, may it be business, entertainment, fitness, and let’s not forget marriage.

Simply put…

In this book Jesse recounts how living with the SEAL has benefited him in multiple ways despite his intensive training that led to Jesse’s torn muscles, bloody nuts ( literally), and other bodily injuries as Tom Brady said:

This book no doubt is a HIT; other than being a funny book, it is an out-of-the-box experience for when your life seems to get stuck in a rut. The SEAL and Jesse had one speed that is full blast and no breaks. So, if you’re into fitness and crazy people, you’ll love “Living with a SEAL.”

#2. Living with the Monks: What Turning Off My Phone Taught Me about Happiness, Gratitude, and Focus

New York Times Bestseller by Jesse Itzler

Jesse Itzler Books

Living with the Monks: What Turning Off My Phone Taught Me about Happiness, Gratitude, and Focus was released in 2018 and is a sequel to “Living with a SEAL” and is about yet another hilarious experience of the author Jesse Itzler.

When the world around us gets a bit tiring, stressful, chaotic, and all the more unbearable, what do we do? Probably take a break, go on a holiday or maybe to a spa for a massage.

Truth is…

There was another option we were unaware of going to a monastery to escape from the world. Yes! That’s exactly what our favorite author here did. He packed up his suitcase mostly with bananas, shaved his head, and drove up to upstate New York to live with the Monks.

And that was the start of a Humorous adventure known to us today as “Living with the Monks.”

After reaching there, Jesse realizes that the monks weren’t bald, obviously because they were Russian Orthodox, not Buddhist, as most TV dramas depict. So, our Itzler’s head was the only one missing vegetation.

Moreover…

The self-imposed time out of Jesse soon begins to haunt him as he starts to miss his family and friends and has to live without a phone and Twitter most of all. But as he struggles to fit in, he realizes the power of solitude and self-preservation in our hectic routines.

Also, have you ever heard?

…of New Skete Monasteries in Cambridge, New York, with Monks that Breed German Shepherds and write dog training books or of nuns that bake cheesecakes?

Visit them if you are in the area; you will surely be able to relate to Itzler. His humorous and insightful storytelling style takes you traveling alongside him to mount Skete.

Every chapter of the book has a quote at the start of it making it even more attention-grabbing. There were a lot of pieces of advice to take and incorporate into our daily lives such as:

“Remember Tomorrow,”

Frequently Jesse sure is correct as we tend to reflect on the past, but we ignore it when we are living it. We all should remember tomorrow that being mindful of our choices enables us to live in the present.

Also…

He tells us how time is ticking, life is short, and how important it is to create a life resume and be present. Living with the monks has a lot of takeaways for us. The book may not be purely a spiritual or more authentic account of the everyday lives of monks, but it’s a light-hearted book illustrating the experiences of Itzler in a fun way.

In the end, the two-week stay of Jesse at the monastery among the unconventionally religious monks and their wisdom proves to be beneficial in giving him a due break in his busy schedule.
