Who Is Dave Ramsey?

Dave Ramsey is an American businessman, motivational speaker, radio host, author, and TV personality from the US whose goal is to reduce people’s debt and spending.

His Christian faith is what drives most of his financial advice.

He has a 13-week video entitled Financial Peace University which is ever popular in Churches.

Dave Ramsey Bio

When his real estate business went into bankruptcy early on in his career, he used that as a springboard to making money from counseling people on their finances.

Dave Ramsey is famous for his radio program The Dave Ramsey Show. It’s aired on more than 600 radio stations throughout Canada and the United States.

He is famously known for his “7 Baby Steps.”

David Lawrence Ramsey III, more famously known as Dave Ramsey, was born on September 3, 1960, in Antioch, Tennessee.

He graduated from the College of Business Administration at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville.

He earned a Bachelor’s degree in Finance and Real Estate.

He applied his knowledge of real estate when he established Ramsey Investments, Inc.

Dave built a rental real estate portfolio amounting to over $4 million by 1986.

However, the bank that financed his company was eventually sold to a much larger bank and demanded that the loans be immediately repaid.

Dave was, unfortunately, unable to pay the loans so he was forced to declare bankruptcy.

After a few years, he was able to begin to recover from his business’ downfall. He then started to counsel couples at his church while also attending financial seminars and workshops on the side.

He developed his own set of learning materials on finance.

Finally, in 1992, he was able to write his book, Financial Peace.

5 Lessons From Dave Ramsey

  1. “Pay the minimum on all of your debt until you can save $1,000 in an emergency fund.” As someone who goes against unnecessary expenses, it wouldn’t come as a surprise to his fans that he would want them to pay off all their debt. Of course, a thousand-dollar will never be achievable unless you pay off your debts.
  2. “Save 15% of income in a retirement account.” This comes as an SOP to everyone. If you’re someone who spends every waking hour working and hustling, then your retirement plan should never be forgotten.
  3. “Start saving for your children’s college education.” Every smart – and able – parent always puts his/her children’s welfare first. And investing in their education is one way of doing it. While the present time is important, so too is the future.
  4. “Keep away from negative people.” One way of staying in a positive light and being as optimistic and at peace as possible is to “stick to positive influences in your life.” You can never go wrong with just letting in people that truly influence you for the better. If you’re an anxious person, then you might as well let solution-driven people into your life. If you’re suffering from mental illness, then pick those people who know how to listen.
  5. “Visualize achieving your goal.” Now, this might seem a bit cliche, but it always helps to plan out your goals and even go to the extent of envisioning them on a paper. You may even reach the point of drawing your dream home, for instance.
