How good is Al, you ask?

Well, he only holds the record of having the second highest game scoring average with the legend Michael Jordan on top.

Allen became the shortest and lightest basketball player to ever win the MVP award in a league that’s dominated by only the tallest of guys.

He’s not a midget by any means, per se. But he sure is not Shaq level.

During the 1996 season, he was awarded the NBA Rookie of the Year. Young Iverson is the son of 15-year-old single mom Ann Iverson from Hampton, Virginia.

He lived a double life early on.

In school, he was in every position for the school’s football team and point guard for the basketball team.

He was able to lead both into the state championships which earned him The Associated Press High School Player of the Year award – that’s for both!

On the streets, he looked after the younger kids and taught them everything he knew.

With his dad out of the picture, Iverson set his eyes on the guy he saw as his father figure, Michael Freeman.

Unfortunately, Allen witnessed firsthand Michael getting arrested for dealing drugs. Since then, Allen failed the grade and never went to class.

That was his ultimate turning point.

He certainly didn’t let his past define him – nor did it impale his talents and skills that led him to stardom!

He turned out pretty great at putting himself on the basketball pedestal.

He was immediately recognized by talent scouts and was first selected by the Philadelphia 76ers back in the 1996 NBA Draft. 

To say that his career was one heck of a rollercoaster ride would be a huge understatement.

Not too long ago, on October 30, 2013, Iverson announced his official retirement from the sport. 

He simply didn’t want to play anymore.

He received a standing ovation from the crowd that witnessed his start to finish.

Iverson said to always be a Sixer “until I die” and that his retirement was a “happy” one.
